Education’s role in achieving sustainable development

What kind of education and learning is needed to be able to adapt to future global challenges?Utökad beskrivning av samhällsfrågan
The new global sustainable development goals define quality education as one of the 17 main goals for global development. One of the specific targets for goal 4 specifically addresses that all learners should acquire the knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development. Further, education is described as a precondition for progress towards all other sustainable development goals. What changes are needed in education systems in order to achieve the goals of the Agenda 2030? What actions are needed globally and in Sweden in order to bring about these changes? Education for sustainable development has been one of the objectives of the UN for more than a decade. What lessons have been learned and how can they contribute to reform education systems in order to achieve social, economic and environmental sustainability? These questions and topics will be discussed partially in relation to a Swedish context and partially to a global UN perspective.
